Causes of bruxism
Bruxism occurs for a number of reasons, but there is general agreement that stress, tension, anxiety, and sub-conscious anger and rage are significant factors underpinning the behaviour. Hypnotherapy is an effective treatment that tackles the unconscious basis of teeth grinding.
Symptoms of Bruxism include
- Pain or tenderness in the jaw and side of the face.
- Difficulty opening the jaw or waking with mouth clamped.
- Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), and associated jaw clicking when eating.
- Tightness and stiffness of the shoulders and damage to the teeth.
- Ear ache.
How hypnotherapy can help
Initial treatment focusses on reducing stress and tension through the use of direct suggestions. This enables the jaw to relax and improves sleep.
it may also be necessary and beneficial, depending upon your circumstances and preferences, to address any deep seated feelings of anger and rage from the past.
